Inwangsan Mountain, located on the border of Jongno-gu, Seoul, and Hongje-dong, Seodaemun-gu,was one of the four internal mountains surrounding Hanyang along with Bukaksan, Namsan, and Naksan when the Joseon Dynasty was founded and the capital was built. It is a famous mountain of the Joseon Dynasty. Inwangsan Mountain, with 500 years of history during the Joseon Dynasty, is a mountain that protects and represents Seoul, and is a source of inspiration and motif for many writers’ works. Inwangsan Mountain witnessed Seoul’s dark apocalyptic past and the pain of refraction stained by party strife from one place.
Today, in an age of conflict and confusion,Inwangsan Mountain dreams of a future of hope.Inwangsan Mountain is our past, present, and tomorrow. <Mt. Inwang> captures the meaning of Mt. Inwang on canvas, and seeks to bring out the overall atmosphere of the work with pure white sacred light that embodies a unique aesthetic. The simple nature and sensibility of Koreans, and their world view of humility and virtue, were intended to form the source of the color aesthetics that I express.
